PDA - Computer Wizardry In The Palm Of Your Hand.
The leather-bound organizer of the 1990’s has been replaced by PDA. This pocket sized computer brings a wealth of software applications and ingenious uses to just about anywhere you can imagine. You’ll find teenagers using PDA’s to swap phone numbers and homework. You’ll find medical doctors using PDA’s to take notes, in fact the places and variety of applications used for PDA is simply staggering.I read recently a study by Jupiter Research that forecast the installed base of handheld PDAs in the U.S. is just over 14 million and will grow to 20 million by 2008. With this many PDA’s it is only a matter of time before everyone has one. The biggest problem it seems these days is figuring out what exactly a PDA is and isn’t. For example, if your cell phone can run software, is it a PDA? How about a Pocket PC, is that a big version of a PDA. There seems to be no clear answer.
Before you rush out to buy a PDA there are some key factors you need to consider. Do you intend to run software on it or merely use it as an calendar, address book and calculator? Do you need it to run an Operating System? Do you want the PDA to download and share information with your desktop computer? Do you want the ability to add a keyboard or maybe a network card? You see, in the early days of PDAs this was never a problem, the answer was you just couldn’t do much with them.
Modern PDAs are built with wi-fi or wireless internet capability and if you’re really keen to have some fun why not try wireless gaming. Yes, while sitting on a flight or maybe a train you can play a game against an opponent sitting near you or across the world.
Another factor to consider is security. Being so small a PDA is easily stolen if you aren’t protective of it. You need to make sure that the PDA you purchase has some form of password protection in case it should fall into someone else’s hands.
The final feature which I like about PDAs is that you can now buy eBooks which can be read on PDAs. Yes, you buy your book online and get instant access to it. No longer will you ever have to drive down to your local bookstore to read the latest best-seller, its no further then your palm of your hand.
